On his recent appointment as Chair and CEO of the New Brunswick Securities Commission

   

A founding partner of Barry Spalding, one of the province's largest independent law firms, David Barry is a nationally recognized practitioner of business law with specialized expertise in corporate finance, securities, commercial transactions, regulatory issues and information technology.

Mr. Barry's contributions to his community extend far beyond a highly respected legal practice. He is past chair of: The Saint John Economic Development Commission, the Saint John Board of Trade, Enterprise Saint John and the Saint John Airport Authority Board. Mr. Barry's efforts to build a stronger economy in the region were recognized with the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce's Stuart S. Peter Award for fostering trade and development in Atlantic Canada.

Mr. Barry's many community contributions, organizational involvements, fundraising efforts and leadership roles on a number of fronts were primarily focused on enhancing social and clinical health of the community as well as its economic, recreational and cultural well being. His efforts at the community level were recently recognized with the awarding of the YM-YWCA Red Triangle Award.

Throughout his career, Mr. Barry's professional contributions at the local, provincial and national levels were many and diverse. In 1992, he was awarded the designation of Queen's Counsel.

Among his numerous academic and sporting awards were: the Birks Medal, the Larkin Trophy, a Beaverbrook Scholarship, Atlantic University Basketball Conference MVP and High Scorer, A St. Francis Xavier Hall of Honour Award, and more.
