The capability of any law firm rests with its people, and growth depends on progressive firms’ abilities to attract and maintain top graduates from leading law schools. At Barry Spalding, we have been able to fuel our growth by attracting capable young lawyers. We are committed to maintaining this tradition.

Barry Spalding is one of New Brunswick’s largest and most comprehensive independent law firms. With offices in Saint John and Moncton, Barry Spalding offers students and new associates diversity in both career paths and location. We have some of the province’s finest litigators and corporate attorneys, as well as specific experience in areas ranging from intellectual property to labour and employment to securities. Our beginning lawyers benefit from being able to learn from our most experienced lawyers, and from having a diversity of practice areas in which to direct their own careers. We have the size, expertise and diversity to rival the regional Atlantic law firms, and our independence allows us to maintain a friendly, personal atmosphere.

At Barry Spalding, we utilize the latest technology in our practice of law. The functions of filing, timekeeping and accounting, research, archiving and communicating are done through our up-to-date network and software. As a member of the firm, you will have access to Quick-Law, Maritime Law Book, as well as our own electronic research database.

We expose our students to the diversity we enjoy as a firm. We will rotate you regularly between our two main areas of practice – litigation and corporate/commercial. You will have an opportunity to work within some of the specialties in each of these general areas. If you are given the offer to become an associate, you will be given the opportunity to choose one of these two general areas of practice, and then will be encouraged to develop specific expertise.

As a summer or articling student, you will be assigned a mentor. Your mentor’s responsibility will be to ensure you receive exposure to a variety of practice areas, and to be there for you if you have questions or concerns.

Our new recruits tell us that they enjoy the working atmosphere at our firm. If you have qualified to join us, we know you have a contribution to make. All support staff, students, associates and partners are treated with respect, and their opinions are valued. We feel this is important for a friendly, healthy work environment.

We would be pleased to hear from you at either of our Saint John or Moncton offices.
