Jack M. Blackier brings a wealth of knowledge to the Barry Spalding team and practises in the areas of tax, estate planning, commercial litigation, administrative law, and insurance law. Currently, he also serves as the Executive Director of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBICA), a self-governing professional body.
Professional Experience
Born in Minto, New Brunswick, Jack had an exemplary university career highlighted by numerous awards and scholarly achievements including the Lord Beaverbrook Undergraduate Scholarship, the Governor-General Award for Highest Academic Standing in the Graduating Class, and the Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship in Law. Having received his B.A.(Double Honors) in 1978 and his LL.B. in 1981 from the University of New Brunswick, Jack attained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1986. Ten years later, he undertook on a part-time basis with Barry Spalding, the process of completing his articling and Bar admission requirements. He was admitted to the Bar in 1997. Currently, Jack holds membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Brunswick, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Law Society of New Brunswick, and the Canadian Bar Association. He also holds the distinction of being a part-time faculty member at both the University of New Brunswick (Faculty of Business Administration) and Mount Allison University (Commerce Faculty).
Outside the Office
Throughout his career, Jack has been involved in a number of voluntary organizations where he has held numerous positions, including: treasurer of the Fredericton Emergency Shelter; director of Epilepsy New Brunswick and Junior Achievement of Saint John Inc.; coordinator of the Quispamsis Minor Hockey Association: member of the Saint John Board of Trade Business Education Forum; judge of the Saint John Board of Trade Outstanding Business Achievement Awards; and board member for the Kennebecasis Valley Minor Hockey Association.
An avid hunter and fishing enthusiast, Jack and his wife Assunta have two sons.
